Creating Variable Running Heads

Look through many books and you’ll see that the odd- and even-numbered pages often have alternating running heads. This is a fairly standard design, especially for double-sided documents, and you can set it up quite easily in Word. Running heads are visible on the screen when you look at your document in Print Layout view or Print Preview, and they appear on designated pages of the printed document.

Specify Different Headers or Footers

  1. Press Ctrl+Home to move to the first page of your document. On the Insert tab, click the Header button, and click Edit Header in the gallery that appears.
