Adding Captions to Tables and Figures

Figures, tables, equations, and other similar elements in a technical document often need captions that number these elements consecutively and provide identifying, qualifying, and explanatory text. Word can label and number these items and can keep track of the numbering so that if you add or delete an item in the sequence, Word will automatically renumber the entire sequence.

Create a Caption

  1. Select the item to be captioned.

  2. On the References tab, click the Insert Caption button to display the Caption dialog ...
