Foreword
I began using Exchange on servers that had 80486-class CPUs, boasted an
amazing 32MB of memory, and offered all of 4GB of disk to hold system
and user files. That was just ten years ago, yet it seems that an incredible
distance has grown in terms of the hardware that is now available as a plat-
form for Exchange. Over the same period, user expectations and behavior
have changed too. In 1996, users did not send as many messages as now, the
messages were not as bloated as they are now, and we did not have the many
ways that we have to interact with Exchange through the various clients
