2.5 Virtual Servers
The terminology did not do us great justice with the term virtual server,
which is being used in many places with Microsoft Exchange and can corre-
spond to many different things.
With Exchange 2003, you get to deal with three types of virtual servers:
1. IIS virtual servers: They run the Internet protocols that Microsoft
Exchange uses to communicate with the “outside”—peer servers
via SMTP or clients via HTTP, POP, IMAP, and (again, but in a
different way) SMTP.
2. Exchange Virtual Server: You will find them only in clusters, and
they represent the instance of a Microsoft Exchange server in a
clustered ...
