The northbridge can quickly become a point of contention, as processors
have increasing core clock speeds that expedite instruction execution: if too
many processors access the same area of memory, the lower the memory
response time (and therefore intermediate components), and the better the
execution capability of the server is. If too many processors (e.g., eight)
attempt to access this common physical memory area, there can be a point
of contention that basically will cause latencies that will hinder the
throughput and response time of the overall application.
