Securing Data Access

Through database roles, access to data is tailored to the needs of your users. Because all Analysis Services data is accessed through cubes, your first step is to grant access to one or more cubes. After you grant this permission, you can then limit the data accessible through these cubes using dimension data and cell-level restrictions.

Granting Access to Cubes

Database roles are not permitted access to the data in cubes unless specifically granted (or overridden by full control rights as previously described). By granting a role Read access to a cube, you enable the members of the role to access all dimension and measures within the cube except where restricted by dimension data and cell-level constraints assigned to the role. ...
