Word tends to treat all picture files more or less the same—it imports them and places them on the page where you specify. All digital images are not created equal, though. There are many types, and some of those types are radically different from others.
This chapter focuses on one specific type of image: the digital photograph. A digital photo is a computer representation of an analog source. It could be a photo of a person captured with a digital camera, or it could be a picture of a magazine clipping captured with a scanner.
