Running the Command Line Utility

For most users, MSE’s easy-to-use Windows interface lets you do everything you need to do. But MSE also provides a command line utility that duplicates the main program’s functionality—and provides a few more options that technical professionals and IT staff might find useful.

MSE’s command line utility is actually a file named MpCmdRun. You run the utility from Windows’ Command Prompt window; it works like any DOS-era command-line utility.

To launch the command line utility, you first have to open Windows’ Command Prompt window and navigate to the Microsoft Security Essentials folder. Follow these steps:
