SharePoint Farms

A SharePoint farm refers to a SharePoint deployment with one or more SharePoint servers that share a common configuration database and SQL server for managing storage of SharePoint content and other SharePoint-related databases. Roles and services available within a SharePoint farm, such as Web front-end server, search and indexing server, Office web applications, and Excel calculation services, can be spread across multiple servers to help balance the server load and avoid performance issues.
