Connected Client APIs

REST (also known as REST-ful) APIs are available in many open Web-based applications, such as Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter, as a means for developers to access and receive data via HTML, image files, and document formats such as PDF and XML. Data in SharePoint 2010 lists can be accessed using REST. See Chapters 19 and 24 to learn more about working with and configuring REST data sources using SharePoint Designer 2010.

In SharePoint Server 2010 REST access is extended to include access to data exposed via Excel Services, such as charts, tables, and PivotTables.
