Determining What Page to Use

The decision on the type of page to use when creating new sites in SharePoint really boils down to the requirements. For instance, if one of the requirements is to lock down authoring and styles on pages then publishing pages are going to provide the maximum amount of control around content editing. If the is for more flexible sites because you want to encourage team members to submit content then Wiki pages are ideal; they are easy to use and take full advantage of the rich text editing features in the SharePoint 2010 ribbon. Users can also readily add Web parts to Wiki pages without the need to add Web part zones. Table 5.4 summarizes some of the key points and pros and cons around using each page type.
