Site Templates and SharePoint Server 2010 Publishing Sites
One aspect of saving site templates in SharePoint Server 2007 has not changed in SharePoint Server 2010. If a site in a SharePoint Server 2010 site collection has the Publishing Feature enabled then the SharePoint Designer’s Save as Template command on the ribbon is disabled, as shown in Figure 8.35. Similarly, when attempting to save a site via the Web interface where publishing is enabled, the Save as Template link is not present on the Site Settings page.
