Deprecated Site Templates in SharePoint 2010
Several site templates previously available in SharePoint 2007 are redundant in SharePoint 2010, such as the Site Directory site template. The Wiki site template, previously available to both SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, is also redundant and replaced by in-place Wiki page functionality throughout sites.
Table 8.4 lists redundant site templates along with suggested alternatives now available to replace those site templates in SharePoint 2010. For instance, the Collaboration Portal site template used to create site collections in SharePoint Server 2007 is now replaced with either the Enterprise Wiki or Publishing Portal site template in SharePoint Server 2010.
