Redirecting the Site’s Home (or Other) Page

Sometimes, you want to redirect an existing page. For instance, you might choose to redirect users visiting your root site to your blog site. Another consideration for redirecting a home page is where you’ve upgraded from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 and have replaced the home page with either a Wiki or publishing page. In that case, your old URL might have pointed to the default.aspx page and therefore people might have that URL bookmarked. So, in other words, the old URL would look like http://sitename/default.aspx and the new URL would look like http://sitename/sitepages/home.aspx.
