Changing a Detached Publishing Page’s Master Page

Ordinarily, you cannot change the master page for a single publishing page. In other words, publishing pages inherit and default to the master page set for the site. After detaching a publishing page from its page layout the Attach Master Page command is enabled in SharePoint Designer. However, attaching a different master page to the page might cause the page to throw an error when viewed in the Web interface. This is because when attaching a different master page to detached page, SharePoint Designer adds the following code to the page language declaration at the top of the page:

Meta:progid="SharePoint.WebPartPage.Document"masterpagefile="~masterurl/default.master" meta:webpartpageexpansion="full" ...
