Default SharePoint CSS Files and Locations

When you install SharePoint, a number of CSS files are installed on the Web front-end server, including CSS files relating to common site tasks and, in SharePoint Server 2010, to publishing functionality. The CSS files located on the Web front-end server are the uncustomized versions of CSS files referenced by SharePoint sites and pages.

You should never directly modify the out-of-the-box CSS files on the Web front-end server. Doing so might cause undesirable results and any changes you make might not be supported by Microsoft.
