Moving the Search Box

By default, in a site using the v4.master page, the search box is positioned in the top-level navigation section. You might choose to relocate the search box for aesthetic or accessibility reasons. When you start creating your own custom master pages, you’ll undoubtedly maintain the search box and, although this section shows you how to relocate the search box based on the v4.master page, you’ll be able to apply the same principle to any SharePoint master page you create.

Note

The following example assumes that your site currently includes a simple search box and that search is functioning on the site. The example also uses the sample.master page and custom.css files created in the earlier exercise.
