A History of List Views in SharePoint Designer 2007

In SharePoint Designer 2007, although you could create new list views it meant taking some additional steps including converting the LVWP to an XSLT Data View (see Figure 22.17). This then made it possible to modify the list’s look-and-feel and add functionality such as conditional formatting, filtering, and other logic. However, it was tedious and took knowledge of working with CAML in order to achieve significant change. In addition, after you converted a list to XSLT Data View and saved the page the page (list view) became customized, which was a concern in environments that discouraged or disallowed customization of SharePoint pages.
