Integrating User Profile Information with Workflows

Users are a core part of workflows. Some might say a workflow couldn’t exist without a user. Within SharePoint this is true for a large majority of workflows. The User Profile Service in SharePoint 2010 enables you to bring information about users in from not only a directory service such as Active Directory but also from other line of business (LOB) systems, for example HR systems using Business Connectivity Services (BCS). Using these capabilities you can store and retrieve properties of users beyond their login names and email addresses.
