Site Workflow

Traditionally, in SharePoint workflows have been attached to lists or associated with list data. For instance, sometimes a list was created as a container to capture data for workflows; the workflow would consume data from the list but would not be attached to the list or available to run as a workflow against items added to the list. This might have included setting up a simple survey list and then using the results as part of a workflow elsewhere in the site. In earlier versions of SharePoint you created a list or InfoPath form library that held the form with an attached workflow. The results were then written off to another location where it was compiled and analyzed.
