APPENDIX APreparing to Learn Microsoft SharePoint Premium

While you can get a high-level understanding of Microsoft SharePoint Premium simply by reading this book, a deep understanding requires hands-on experience. This appendix helps you set up a Microsoft 365 tenant configured with appropriate licensing to be able to explore these amazing tools.

WARNING At the time of this writing Microsoft was transitioning how certain features of SharePoint Premium are licensed and provisioned to a new model. These steps may reflect a “mid-transition” state of SharePoint Premium; therefore, they are subject to change. If necessary, errata or supplemental information will be provided following publication to show how to enable these features.

Creating a Sandbox Tenant

There are many options for creating a sandbox Microsoft 365 tenant. For our purposes, we will use trial subscriptions. There are three major components to the process:

1. Create a Microsoft 365 tenant.
2. Create a Microsoft Azure subscription within the tenant.
3. Create and set up a Microsoft Syntex subscription within the tenant.

In this process, you will create your own Microsoft 365 tenant and provision it with trial licenses and a subscription to Microsoft Azure for pay-as-you-go Syntex services.

WARNING You will need to provide payment information to create the trial subscriptions. You will not be charged until the end of the trial period (usually 30 days).
