What’s New with SQL Server Profiler

The SQL Server 2012 Profiler is essentially the same as the SQL Server 2008 profiler. This is not surprising because many new features that were added in SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 addressed gaps identified in previous versions.

One surprising decision is that the SQL Server Profiler for Database Engine Trace Capture and Trace Replay has been placed on the deprecation list in SQL Server 2012. These features will be supported in the next version of SQL Server but will be removed in a later version. Microsoft has identified Extended Events as the replacement. Extended Events is a lightweight event-based infrastructure that is covered in more detail in Chapter 35, “Monitoring SQL Server Performance
