What’s New in Database Backup and Restore

SQL Server 2012 offers a number of new features in this release. These features are centered on improved usability in the SQL Server Management Studio as well as support for the AlwaysOn Availability Groups. The biggest new usability improvement in SSMS comes in the form of the Database Recovery Advisor. This tool is launched from the Restore Database window and is intended to simplify the restore process. It does this by displaying a visual timeline that outlines the database backups that are available for restore.
