What’s New with PowerShell

PowerShell continues to evolve and change as it relates to SQL Server. This evolution starts with the SQL Server setup. In the past, PowerShell could be installed as part of the SQL Server setup. Starting in SQL Server 2012, PowerShell 2.0 is a prerequisite for installing SQL Server 2012. You cannot install PowerShell 2.0 with the SQL Server setup, but fortunately it is already installed with many of the new operating systems. This demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to PowerShell and SQL Server’s dependency on PowerShell.
