Using Constraints

Constraints—including PRIMARY KEY, FOREIGN KEY, UNIQUE, CHECK, and DEFAULT—are the primary method used to enforce data integrity. They are relatively easy to implement, and they constrain or limit the values that are allowed in SQL Server tables.
