The primary job of a database administrator (DBA) is to protect the data within the databases that they manage. Protecting the data is accomplished through two main tasks: backing up databases and securing databases. In this chapter, you will learn about one of the two most important tasks that a DBA can perform. You will learn how to limit the feature set to reduce your security exposure. You will also learn how to control access to an instance and database object as well as encrypt data and databases.
