Identifying Minimum and Maximum Values

Although statistics such as averages and standard deviations give a sense of the typical distribution of values associated with a set, the minimum and maximum values define the absolute range of values. In MDX, the calculation of minimums and maximums is supported through the MDX Min and Max functions, respectively:

Min( {Set} [, Expression])
Max( {Set} [, Expression])

The MDX Min and Max functions operate similarly to the functions described in other parts of this chapter. A set is defined and each tuple in that set is evaluated. Depending on the function employed, the maximum or minimum value from that set is then returned.
