Connecting to Analysis Services

In Reporting Services, data sources are items instructing Reporting Services how to connect to a particular resource. Data sources identify a provider (driver), a provider-specific connection string, and how to present the user’s identity when connecting to the resource.

A Reporting Services data source may exist independent of a report, enabling its reuse across multiple reports. This is referred to as a shared data source.

A Reporting Services data source may also be defined for use within a specific report. This is referred to as an embedded data source.
