Types of replication

There are three types of replication available. Snapshot Replication is the simplest and is unidirectional replication. Transactional Replication is also a unidirectional type of replication that replicates data at the transaction level; this type of replication can be bidirectional if it is configured using updatable subscription. Peer-to-Peer type of replication is built on top of Transactional Replication; it is a bidirectional type of replication that provides us with an advantage of load balancing. Merge Replication is the most complex and bidirectional type of replication.
