A key feature of Configuration Manager 2012 is the ability to target users. Previous versions had difficulty targeting the users or their associated systems, so the targeting was mostly at systems independent of what user was assigned the system. Configuration Manager 2012 introduces Applications and User Affinity to address this gap.
For example, the Company XYZ organization has Senior Directors and Directors that need to be targeted with different software. The Senior Directors group includes user Greg Ogle and the Directors group includes user Steve Upp. The administrator needs to target both groups for Office 2010, but Office 2012 needs to be automatically installed on the Senior Directors group’s primary computer.
