Summary

Folder Redirection and Offline Folders do a great job of making user data and even certain configuration files available wherever the user may work, and with Windows 7, the technologies are highly efficient and mostly transparent to the user. It is critical, however, to understand that much more than just the user’s data must be considered. Equally important are the user settings; in the next chapter you learn about virtualizing the user profile, which should always go hand in hand with virtualizing user data. Don’t neglect other technologies such as SharePoint to provide a capability for great collaboration between users, which is typically far more functional than a simple file share. Using the File Services Resource Management capabilities provides an excellent set of tools for really managing, controlling, and reporting on all the centrally stored data and should definitely be evaluated.
