Designing Forms with the Windows Forms Designer

The first step in building the sample application is to design a form. Because you’ll be using the Toolbox frequently, it makes sense to always keep it in the foreground. On the left side of your Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE), there is a collapsed tab group that contains the Server Explorer and the Toolbox.

Move the mouse pointer over the Toolbox icon to expand it. Click the pin icon in the window title, located in the upper-right corner of the Toolbox (see Figure 4-6). When you pin it, the Toolbox stays where it is and doesn’t automatically collapse when you move the mouse pointer away from it.
