access control

The security mechanism in Windows NT and Windows 2000 that determines which objects a security principal can use and how the security principal can use them.

access control entry (ACE)

An entry in an access control list (ACL) containing a security identifier (SID) and a set of access rights. A process with a matching security identifier is either allowed access rights, denied rights, or allowed rights with auditing.

access privileges
