Best Practices

The following are best practices for Windows PE:

  • Break the MS-DOS barrier. Forget everything you assumed about preparing computers for installation. To get the most out of Windows PE, you have to assume that there is a way to accomplish what you need.

  • Customize device drivers. Add the network and mass-storage device drivers required for your environment. But you can start Windows PE more quickly by limiting the device drivers it loads, as described in "Customizing Windows PE," earlier in this chapter.
