Promoting Windows Server 2008 to a Domain Controller
You can use the following steps to promote a Windows Server 2008 server to a domain controller. These steps create the domain controller as the first domain controller in the security.mta domain. This domain name matches the domain name used in the book:
These steps assume all the previous steps have been completed and the system has been rebooted after changing the name to DC1.
1. Log onto the server with the Administrator account by clicking the Administrator icon, entering the password you used earlier, and pressing Enter.
2. After the system boots, the desktop appears. Click Start, type dcpromo in the Start Search text box, and press Enter.
