accelerator key
The underlined letter in a menu name or menu command.
active partition
A disk drive’s bootable partition. Its boot sector tells the ROM BIOS at startup that this partition contains the operating system’s bootstrap code. The active partition is usually the same as the primary partition.
ADC
See analog-to-digital converter.
Address Resolution Protocol
A network protocol that handles the conversion of an IP address to a MAC address of a network interface card.
ad hoc wireless network
A wireless network configuration that allows for direct wireless NIC-to-NIC communication. See also infrastructure wireless network.
