spread, it detects aircrafts at different altitudes without tilting the antenna.
This paraboloid also works well for search radar applications to compensate
for pitch and roll of the ship.
The truncated paraboloid may be used in height-nding systems, provided
it is rotated by 90

, as shown in Figure 9.2c. Since the reector is parabolic in
the vertical plane, the energy is vertically focussed into a narrow beam. In
the horizontal direction, the beam spreads. Such a fan-shaped beam is used
to accurately determine the elevation angle.
