The following tables represent the MMA’s (MIDI Manufacturers Association) 1995 update of the MIDI 1.0 specification, which defines the MIDI protocol. You should use this appendix as a reference guide and a summary of the information explained in Chapters 2 and 3.

Expanded Status Bytes List

In the following tables, you will find a list for each category of Status bytes found in a MIDI message. Remember that each MIDI message starts with a Status byte and is then followed by its appropriate number of Data bytes. This section lists all possible Status byte values sorted in binary order and what they represent.
