As a musician, you are probably familiar with the concept of beats per minute (or BPM) when working with sequences. This usually determines the speed at which the song will play. However, sequencers use other timing mechanisms, such as sequence resolution, which determines the precision of each quarter note. Then there are the synchronization concepts inherent to any type of work where two or more devices need to be locked together. This is the case with MIDI clock, mainly used to synchronize two or more MIDI devices, and SMPTE, which is used when working with video or time-based projects.
