UTP Wiring Standards
It probably won’t come as a surprise to know that UTP connectors and wiring have associated color codes and wiring schemes. Each wire inside a UTP cable must connect to the proper pin on the connector at each end of the cable. The wires are color coded to assist in properly matching the ends; each pair of wires has a solid-colored wire and a striped wire: blue/blue-white, orange/orangewhite, brown/brown-white, and green/green-white. Industry organizations, such as the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), have developed a variety of standard color codes to facilitate installation.
