The Power of the Assertive Expert

Humility is misunderstood. No one yells out for a “humble heart surgeon.” The best attorneys aren’t the humble ones. Good enough isn’t enough.

PROVIDING FREE VALUE CONTINUALLY

The expert to whom I’m referring is not the guru on the mountaintop, nor the reclusive Bobby Fischer of chess championships (Figure 3.1). Nor is it the expert witness who appears in a trial to testify on the implementation procedures for ceramic brakes.

I’m talking about the expert who is accessible, bold, provocative, and generous. “Generous” might surprise you, but everyone I’ve met at the top of their profession has exhibited great generosity. They share and they provide value—continually.
