Many components of Minecraft connect with each other, so a variety of helpful procedures have been discovered. Though clever players have discovered many helpful tips, the ten in this chapter should provide a better survival experience.
Digging Safely
The underground in Minecraft presents quite a bit of danger, so mine carefully to avoid these common hazards:
Falling when digging straight down: Breaking the block underneath you always increases the danger of falling into a pit or a pool of lava. Staircase mines (described in Chapter 5) are useful because they don’t require you to dig straight down.
Falling sand and gravel or flowing lava when digging upward: Be sure to quickly stopper flowing lava with blocks such as cobblestone.
If you follow basic safety guidelines, you can navigate dark caves and huge lava lakes with no problem.
