that we must be prepared to huge imbalances between the emission of carbon into the atmos-
phere, and its assimilation by all possible sinks on the ground. Thus, carbon storage outside
the atmosphere, in a stable form as long as possible, is highly advisable. The combustion
of organic waste does not fit this scenario if the produced CO
2
is not captured and stored.
Only small amounts of carbon (less than <1%) remains in the ashes (IPCC, 2007). Storage of
carbon-reach waste may be considered a long-term carbon deposition method. The analysis
shows that over 50% of the carbon contained in the waste accumulated in landfills is not
transferred to gas or leachate but remains trapped in the mass of waste for a long time. This ...
