fills is generally smaller than in new ones, where silicon-containing waste is continuously
deposited. Siloxanes originate from some consumer products, such as shampoo, detergents
and cosmetics. Presence of these compounds in LFG negatively affects the performance of
energy generation devices, thus they should be removed before combustion. During combus-
tion they are converted to silicon dioxide (SiO
2
), which can deposit on valves, cylinder walls
and liners are the cause of extensive damage by erosion or blockage.
