A mix is a combination of sound sources. As soon as you put two or more different sources together, they start to influence each other. You could say that mixing is nothing more than using this influence to your advantage. For example, you can make one source seem more important than the other. As discussed in the previous chapters, this can be done by manipulating the balance between parts, as well as the placement, timbre and dynamics of the sources. However, there is another determining factor for the influence that two sound sources have on each other: the interplay between time and phase.
