Some people still refer to a mobile site as a WAP site, but this is archaic terminology. WAP stands for Wireless Access Protocol, a technology that hasn't been in active widespread use for many years. The fact is, most smartphones and tablets can now support most modern front-end technologies, with the exception of Flash. This is great news because it frees you up to do pretty much anything with your mobile site that you'd do with your desktop site—within reason, of course. A lot of things you'd want users to do on the desktop might not make a lot of sense in the mobile context, but the point is that you can actually do them if you choose.
