Problems with Viewports and Resizing
On desktops and laptops, we have a bigger space to work with and can have multiple windows open and staggered across the screen. On mobile devices, you have only the small active area between the hardware and application chrome to work with. This space is the viewport. Many display issues are by-products of a mobile browser trying to translate how a desktop-sized design can map down to the mobile viewport. For example, by default the iPhone automatically assumes your site is 980px wide and tries to scale down your site proportionally.
