Chapter 1. Model-Based Software Systems Engineering
The phrase model-based engineering (MBE) is used to designate engineering practices in which models are the central and indispensable artifacts throughout a product’s lifecycle encompassing concept, development, deployment, operation, and maintenance. Increasingly, this phrase is being applied to software engineering to emphasize its maturation as an engineering discipline, one where modeling technologies are becoming indispensable in developing advanced computing systems. MBE has emerged within software engineering in a variety of guises including model-driven architecture (MDA), model-driven development (MDD), model-based development (MBD), and model-centered development (MCD).
