Nonlinear Dynamics and Modeling

Precise actuators (PAs) have inherent common nonlinear dynamic phenomena associated with mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems. Studies in these phenomena can increase the understanding of actuator systems and help us improve control quality.

This chapter will describe several typical physical dynamics that appear in precise actuators, such as piezo actuator, shape memory alloy actuator, coil motor, and permanent magnetic motor. There are four common dynamics observed in precise actuators: hysteresis, creep, friction, and ripple force. Their mathematical descriptions will be discussed in this chapter.
