6.1 Introduction
To this point we have discussed various aspects of uncertainty arising in
inverse problem techniques. All discussions have been in the co ntext of a
given set or sets of data carried out under various a ssumptions on how (e.g.,
independent sampling, absolute measur ement error, relative measurement er-
ror) the data were collected. For many years [4, 7, 16, 1 7, 18, 21, 22, 23]
